2012 Shoulder Symposium Received High Marks

Lexington Clinic’s Shoulder Center of Kentucky hosted the 15th Annual Shoulder Symposium on Friday, July 27 and Saturday, July 28, 2012. This year’s symposium, held at the Hilton in Downtown Lexington, focused on the clinical implications of scapular dyskinesis in shoulder injury and had a record attendance of 234 clinicians, including athletic trainers, physical therapists, occupational therapists and physicians.

The course was given exceptional course evaluation scores, averaging 4.5 out of 5 possible points! In an attempt to measure the effectiveness of delivery of the course curriculum, participants were distributed a pre-test at the start of the symposium followed by a post-test on the last day.  Average scores increased by 16%, suggesting significant improvement in knowledge on this complicated topic. The success of this course can be attributed to the efforts of the symposium faculty, comprised of researchers and clinicians who have established reputations as experts in scapular function, evaluation and rehabilitation.

Thank you to everyone who made this year’s symposium a success!

The Shoulder Center of Kentucky’s 14th Annual Shoulder Symposium was held July 29-30 at the Hilton in Downtown Lexington, Kentucky. Participants included nationally recognized orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, and athletic trainers. This years meeting drew 200 attendees from all over the globe and was complete with lectures, lively panel discussions, evaluation and rehabilitation workshops, and a cadaveric surgical lab for physicians.

In addition, symposium participants faculty, all of whom are leading authorities on the throwing shoulder, took part in a one day, closed meeting, sponsored by Arthrex. The lively discussion about the disabled throwing shoulder included three main topics; the kinetic chain, the labral injuries and pre and post injury interventions. The day long discussions resulted in the group developing a series of consensus statements which will be published in the peer-reviewed journal Arthroscopy.
