The Shoulder Center of Kentucky
2013 Shoulder Symposium Registration now open!
Lexington Clinic's Shoulder Center of Kentucky announces the 16th Annual Shoulder Symposium "The Rotator Cuff: What are we really treating?" We will review the literature and ongoing research that gives us insight into treating the clinical variations of rotator cuff disease, and focus on critically appraising the existing research and current methods of clinical practice. The following general areas will be addressed: basics of rotator cuff injury; rotator cuff evaluation (as decided by the orthopedic surgeon); rotator cuff treatment options (surgical and alternative invasive methods); foundations of rotator cuff rehabilitation and application of rehabilitation.
This symposium is designed for physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, certified athletic trainers and other healthcare professionals interested in the evaluation and management of the shoulder. This course will present current theories and techniques in the evaluation and rehabilitation of the kinetic chain, scapula, and shoulder specifically, the spectrum of rotator cuff disease and the challenges clinicians face with evaluation and treatment of the disease. The course will achieve its objectives by utilizing standard lectures, didactic sessions, panel discussions, video case presentations, as well as hands-on rehabilitation workshops. 2012 Shoulder Symposium Received High Marks
Lexington Clinics Shoulder Center of Kentucky hosted the 15th Annual Shoulder Symposium on Friday, July 27 and Saturday, July 28, 2012. This years symposium, held at the Hilton in Downtown Lexington, focused on the clinical implications of scapular dyskinesis in shoulder injury and had a record attendance of 234 clinicians, including athletic trainers, physical therapists, occupational therapists and physicians.
The course was given exceptional course evaluation scores, averaging 4.5 out of 5 possible points! In an attempt to measure the effectiveness of delivery of the course curriculum, participants were distributed a pre-test at the start of the symposium followed by a post-test on the last day. Average scores increased by 16%, suggesting significant improvement in knowledge on this complicated topic. The success of this course can be attributed to the efforts of the symposium faculty, comprised of researchers and clinicians who have established reputations as experts in scapular function, evaluation and rehabilitation.
Thank you to everyone who made this years symposium a success!

The theme of this years course is Clinical Implications for Scapular Dyskinesis. We will review the literature and ongoing research that gives us insight to treating the clinical conditions that involve altered scapular mechanics. The following general areas will be addressed: the scapula and specific shoulder/elbow injuries (labral, rotator cuff, impingement, MDI/instability, clavicle/AC joint, scapular muscle detachment, elbow); the scapula and specific sports (baseball, tennis, swimming, contact sports); the clinical exam; rehabilitation protocols for scapular dyskinesis; and outcomes research.
This
symposium is designed for physicians, physical therapists, occupational
therapists, certified athletic trainers and other healthcare
professionals interested in the evaluation and management of the
shoulder. This course will present current theories and techniques in
the evaluation and rehabilitation of the kinetic chain, scapula, and
shoulder specifically, the role of the scapula and scapular dyskinesis
in shoulder injury. The course will achieve its objectives by utilizing
standard lectures, didactic sessions, panel discussions, video case
presentations, as well as hands-on rehabilitation workshops.
These formats are designed to provide interaction between the
participants and the presenters. The lectures and workshops will cover
topics specific to musculoskeletal issues commonly seen in the clinical
setting and by the end of the course, participants should have a better
understanding of the kinetic chain theory of evaluation and rehabilitation
which will allow them to incorporate this philosophy into their daily
therapeutic practice.
Participants will have interactions with speakers
during discussion segments and panel discussions. There will also be a
series of evaluation workshops where participants will practice and
demonstrate skills for various lab instructors.
